Why Give Sophia Recovery a Try?

Women who have stepped through the door of Sophia Recovery talk about why YOU should give it a try...
“It’ll probably be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do, but it'll also be one of the best things. You can’t have any expectation of what you think you're going to get until you actually come in and see. I thought that because we had a healthy income I wasn’t eligible for the services at Sophia. I didn't know that they were available for everyone."
"I think for somebody's first time coming in, my advice would be just let go of your expectations and let what's gonna happen, happen. It's not fun. It's not pleasant. It's not like you're going to sit down and have a coffee with a friend and just chit-chat talk about what you did over the weekend. There is work involved, and vulnerability.”
"I think the moment you reach out to anyone - whether it’s walking in a room, sending a Facebook message, a phone call - it takes such courage to do that. If you’re not ready to walk into a room yet, try online first. Anyone who is struggling - that first step is the biggest one you’re going to make. Someone was there for me when I made those steps along the way, and they will be there for you, too."
"Recovery is a beautiful thing. I’ve met some of the more empathetic people and the best storytellers I’ve ever met. People are there to get help, but they’re so aware that what they say can impact other people. Taking that first step is so hard because you don’t know what to expect. Just see if it’s for you."
"Come in and give it a try. If the first person you talk to isn't somebody that you gel with, you can find somebody else. There's all kinds of lovely ladies in here that are willing to share their stories and listen to yours, and help navigate through whatever it is that you're going through, whether it's drugs or alcohol. Somebody that has been through it, and can help you, and not be judgmental. Not look at you like you're crazy - ‘cause they've been there."
"You're looking for a new way of life, and to find a new way of life on your own is really hard. But if you come to Sophia, they have retreats and meetings and sewing groups and poetry groups and cooking groups - always have something different going on. You can find an interest and there's just drop-in group if you're really lonely. It’s been a fantastic program and I really hope the word gets out there and that people really come in and utilize the space. It's safe it's beautiful and it definitely saves people’s lives."
"If you’re thinking about coming to Sophia Recovery - be brave and just walk through that door. You will never regret it. It’s the best place to be if you want to recover."
