International Women’s Day invites us to celebrate women’s stories and strengths, while we at Sophia Recovery Centre continue our commitment to reduce stigma, educating our community and creating safe, supportive spaces for recovery. Stay In! for Sophia embraces that vision through film, reflection, and conversation, highlighting themes of women’s resilience, healing, and recovery.

About The Outrun

This year’s Stay In! film selection is The Outrun, Amy Liptrot’s deeply moving memoir about returning home to the Orkney Islands after years of alcoholism and chaos. It’s a story of rebuilding, reflection, healing, and the often messy, courageous path toward recovery.

The book follows Amy as she reconnects with the wild landscape of her childhood - wind‑swept cliffs, cold seas, migratory birds - and uses that grounding to rediscover herself, one step at a time. Its honest, poetic approach to addiction, trauma, resilience, and renewal has resonated with readers around the world.

Because our Sophia Book Club is reading The Outrun this season, this year’s Stay In! is the perfect opportunity to gather, reflect, and connect through shared themes of belonging, struggle, and hope. An ideal pairing with IWD’s call to uplift women’s stories.
